Amaranth | what is it?

The amaranth plant is indigenous to Mexico, Central and South America. It grows to three metres in height and oil is extracted from the seeds. The valuable active ingredients protect and have an anti-oxidative effect, thanks to unsaturated fatty acids.

The amaranth plant belongs to the Amaranthaceae family and comes originally from South America although it is now cultivated and used across the globe. Up to 150,000 seeds are formed on each plant at the flower stems.
